Q:
how long do turkeys stay in one area? do they live in the same woods for a week or just a day or what? and how far could they travel away? im asking because im going fall turkey next week and i saw some turkeys in the woods the other day. but they might have moved real far away. any other tips would be awesome. thanks guys

if they were there, chances are they will still be there. the best thing is to find out where they are roosting and be close by before dawn when they fly down. they usually will not abandon an area unless they are forced out. good luck.

Turkeys actually scatter tto the four winds in the early Spring just prior to mating season. Other than that you can usually find them where they have 3 things food, water, and cover including a good place to roost. They should not wander far in a week or two in the fall. Yesterday they were all around me while I was bowhunting deer. All the clucking cutting and general heck raising kept the deer on edge.

the turkeys arent going to move far, if they have food, water, and cover you will find them. if there flocked up make sure when you go to break them up you actually break them up and they dont fly away in one flock. wait about a half hour before you start to call after the birds have dispersed. clucks and subtle yelps will be fine.
