You can buy a good used Remington 700 in .243 Winchester most anywhere these days for $330 to $350.
I'm a Savage fan but I'm no fan of the AXIS. Everyone I've handled has been a POS.
I have one in .223 and it shoots really well, good bang for the buck lol.
I agree with beekeeper. I would buy a good used gun, instead of buying just an okay used gun. Most of the cheaper new guns being produced nowadays are mostly plastic. Look for a used ruger, remington, or even a used savage just a better model.
Meant to say just an okay new gun..
For that much you can get a NEW Savage/Stevens 200. Which IMHO is a better gun.
Check this out
If you want something other than a .243 they have those as well. Just go to the main page of Savage rifles.
It also ships free so you don't have to worry about more $ getting tacked on. FFL fee but that will depend on who you purchase it through.
Not my definition of a good gun.
I can't get excited about the Axis but the Savage 110 is an excellent rifle. In that same price range, I'd highly recommend the Howa 1500. See my range report yesterday. It SHOOTS and it is a good gun.
I don't like any rifle that has plastic parts. I'm a Savage fan but won't buy an Axis or Edge. I don't like rifles with catchy names either.
very ugly IMO. i have the 200 in 30-06 and love it. picked it up brand new for $250.
Save the few extra dollars and buy a Savage 110. A much better gun. I think that you would be much better served with the 110. Besides being ugly I have heard some bad things about the Axis/Edge. I know some people have them and had good luck with them but why take the chance for the few extra dollars for the 110 and then you know you have a good firearm. I have had several 110's and have never had one that was not a shooter.
The Savage Mod 200/243W is a plane Jane Rifle, But it will serve you well...you get the most BANG for the BUCK. The Money you save buy a Good scope!
