Why would you want to make a mock rub? A deer's sense of smell is WAY better than its vision. You may attract the attention of other hunters with a mock rub though.
i ve heard of taking rubs from 1 area and putting them in the next. i think it has something to do with the scent they produce in the gland just above there eye... just like a mock scrape

take some old rattling horns and rub them on a tree
yeah and I would add some scent around it.
