Q:
I hate the wire climbing tree stands. The one my wife's step dad uses has metal spikes to grip into the tree. I feel this is much more secure. My question is where Can I find a climber with the metal spikes and not the wire?

You're asking for a climber with spikes rather than wire, due you mean cable? There are some climbers that have a solid bar with some metal teeth, not really spikes and can be found but are rare. most climbers have a strap ( lone wolf ), a rubber coated chain ( api ) and cable ( summit ). I use the summit Viper and the cable works great for me. The main thing about climbers I've found is not to use climbers on smooth barked treesand to use only coarse barked trees. picture what can happen when using even a steel toothed climber on a pine tree, you attach the stand and sink the teeth into the bark and start to put wieght on it and a 2 foot section of bark slides down, so does your stand and can be worse when wet. Use trees such as oak and yu'll never have this problem.
good luck, stay safe and happy hunting.

you could go to cabelas or dicks sporting goods or thier web sites
Thank you Cgull. I did mean cable but wire was what I was thinking at the time. Thanks for your input and 007Dom I have looked at bass pro and the others just typically have the cable. Thanks.
I found the type of stand I was looking for with the metal climber and not the cable at www.supermagstands.com
Thanks for you 2's input
I love my API stands ! I have 2 and would not trade them for anything on the market today other then a new API stand . I have friends with Summit climbing stands that feel the same way about the Summit . Both are well made , very safe if used right and cost a little more then some others but a climbing stand IS NOT the place to pinch your penny's . Buy a good solid stand and it will last you for years to come & always ALWAYS wear your safety harness from the time you leave the ground to the time you return to the ground .
Safe hunting !
Have you tried looking at your local hunting outlets like acadmey outdoors/bass pro shops or search engine on the internet?
