Wow, I wonder why? Most people work during the week and only have saturday and sunday off.

I have been wondering that most of my adult life. For some reason, you can go blast crows to kingdom come on Sundays, but I can't enjoy a quiet day in the woods with my bow, hunting whitetails... The PA Game Commission is bass ackwards.

I think it has to do with religion back in the old n days and they just never changed it but i might be wrong but thats what my mom said a penn. native.I know alot of stores are closed in penn. on sundays since its the sabbath so that may be the reason for the hunting thing. Gob bless

That could be a reason. Same reason why PA doesn't sell beer in gas stations, or at super markets. Either way, its ridiculous and should be changed to allow hard working men and women the chance to hunt more often.

why does the farm bereau have a problem with hunting on sundays? if there are so few days to hunt, why isn't PA over populated with big game?

BioGuy, where in the handbook of regulations does it say you can also hunt coyotes and foxes on Sundays?

I looked through the book, and could not find it. The only thing I found was for crows, which you can hunt Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only.

whitetailfreek - p17 bottom of first column, red ink:
Sunday Hunting: It is unlawful to hunt wildlife, except foxes, crows and coyotes, on Sundays.

More curious to me is why hunting crows in PA is prohibited on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays...or why anyone would want to hunt them at all.

Since hunting coyotes during archery deer season, regular firearms deer season, and any bear season is restricted to "while lawfully hunting deer or bear, or with a furtaker's licence" (p77) I think you need a furtaker's licence to hunt them on those Sundays falling in those seasons.

BioGuy - I'm pleased to hear that the resistance to Sunday hunting originates outside the Game Commission, because despite all the griping you hear, the GC does a pretty good job in opinion. I do think they're falling into the same psychosis as the Boat & Fish Commission - trying to create a special niche season for every type of weapon, the way the equipment rules change about every halfmile on trout streams.

jamesti - PA isn't overpopulated with big game because of all the rigs that run from NY/NJ to OH/WV.
And any that dodge that face starvation and disease from our bad forest management legacy (it's gotten a lot better recently).

um hey white tail freak, if you would actually read the hand book of regulations you would see that you can hunt coyotes 365 days a yr. You may want to get some glasses and read more thourouly.
