A dozen or so traps or snares, a .22, some knowledge preferably from an experienced trapper willing to mentor you, a trapping license, some land available for trapping, and the time and devotion to work your trap line.
I would add to what Dave expressed, a good skinning knife, a fleshing knife, some scrap lumber for a fleshing board, some stretchers, and a secure place to work your hides and store them away from varmints and two legged vermin. A good trapping book would be a wise investment, and a subscription to FF&G.
First decide what animals you want to trap , What you trap decides some of the equipment you need. Then you need to check and find out when they are giving a trappers education course in your area, start by checking your states D.N.R web sight for that . Then get a subscription to fur fish and game as CRM stated . Which will have articles on trapping and snaring. plus you will be able to buy books and videos on trapping there ,as well as see different ads where you can buy every thing and more Dave and CRM told you you will need to get you started .
If you just want to look at traps and equipment for now , Look for Duke traps.com or Onida victor traps.com on the web . They will be good traps to start out with .
