Q:
Do you think its possible to make squirrel jerky? I love to hunt them but getting everything together to cook them takes to long and my mom doesnt like when i cook them in the house (says it smells like squirrel in the house lol).Any tips much appreciated!

Yes it is very possible. I actually make a small game jerky with a mixture of squirrel and rabbit. I add a little pork fat just to keep it moist. Use the same jerky mix available for deer. Grind the meat together and use a jerky shooter and dehydrator. Great for something different. I did it for the saemreason you are thinking about trying it. Something a little different. Nice change of taste.I add some Red Pepper to give it a bit of bite and stay away from the sweeter mises as squirrel is already pretty sweet tasting unless over cooked. Great way to utilize your game bag.

u can make jerky out of anything but birds exept turkey

we use the jerky master jerky gun for ground beef and ground venison. if you grind up the squirrel meat, im sure u could season it and bake it. i think it would turn out very well.

I'll be givning it a try here within the next couple weeks. Plan to mix with ground moose.

@hfedder40 - another bird that makes great jerky is canada goose.
