Q:
To all of you in the path of Hurricane Irene: Be safe, evacuate when you are told and remember, the first 72 hours are on you. It may take a while---days---for responders to reach you, so prepare yourselves.
I live down on the Gulf Coast and have been through a bunch of these storms and they are nothing to mess around with. It may seem exciting to "Face the Elements" but things can go right down the crapper in a heartbeat. Play it safe, folks, and get ready now. Leave the area if you can---visit old friends. Even if you come through the storm all right, you may well be without power for days, and that's no fun in this heat.
Good luck, God bless.

Good luck CR. I hope the sun shines on you and yours.
Hope everyone makes it through safe.
Been there, done that. Well said, CR. This one could be really bad. Let us pray for the safety of all who are in harm's way.
I agree with being prepaired, and pray for all those in harms way.
Pray and heed the authorities warnings. Better be safe than sorry.
My state of Connecticut is going off the rails....hype, hype, hype! Stop & Shop and Home Depot are gonna make a killing. We have gas for the generator, the chain saw tuned up and all the lawn furniture put away. I'm gonna defrost some moose steaks and ride it out. As of now, the eye is expected to pass over my town sometime on Sunday.
Just to add....don't get me wrong, we need to take it seriously, it is a big bad storm. I just can't stand our local weather people anymore. I think their job is to scare people out of their wits. I don't know how it is in the rest of the country, but here in Connecticut they just seam to freak out. I hope all in the path stay safe, and definately if you're in a flood zone, don't hang around.
I sure hope it ends up being a bunch of hype, Moose. But just in case it isn't, I'll still say a prayer or two for you folks in its path. Stay safe.
Thanks Ck. I'm about 12 miles inland off Long Island Sound. Plus we have Long Island itself in the way. We have one tree in range of the house that may get dropped today or tomorrow morning just in case. At the least we'll have more firewood, but better safe than sorry. I think we may be out of power for a few days, lots of trees around powerlines near us. We'll see what happens. I'll post some pictures after she rolls through.
We are predicted to take a direct hit here in S.NJ. The wife and kids are going to her parents but i'll be working all weekend. Hope it takes a turn to the east.
gonna get a lot of rain and wind here in new york but we will get through it. 5 inches to almost a foot from what i was hearing and 40 to 60 mile an hour winds. thanks for the thoughts, country and others.
steve and moose, keep in touch and hope you do ok. should be ok for us all.
