Who is the Real Deal?
Question by KingFisher907. Uploaded on February 08, 2009
Survivorman is hands-down the best show. I couldn't stand even five minutes of man vs wild. Survivorman just has it all and is very knowledgeable without sounding like he's reading cards.
There is no doubt, that my boy Les "Survivorman" Stroud is the real deal. Even though he is out there a week ahead of time with a survival expert from the area. He films the whole thing by himself. That takes some stones.
I perfer Man vs. Wild, but I like Surviorman as well. Both are great informative guys. One thing that I can say is Survivorman goes it alone with the camera, whereas Man vs. Wild has a camera crew and when he was in Scotland actually pulled him out of mossed over shaft.
Survivor Man, he went it alone, not only does Bear have a crew with him, I also heard that he would frequently leave the field when not filming. Les was actually surviving.
Survivorman for sure. Didn't Bear come out and admit he was flow out of a location to stay at a hotel and besides Les doesn't have any camera man. And he sure can play the harmonica.
They are both entertainers. The show that Stroud did on the Altamaha River in Georgia was about as fake as it comes. After being dropped off he set up his camp on slough just off the main river channel. The fellow who "dropped" him off is a local commercial fisherman who also helped him carry his stuff in! When the guy picked Stroud up he was pretending to be freezing, the commercial fisherman was wearing shorts and a t-shirt!
Take a look at Stroud, he doesn't look like he misses too many meals... While he is not fat he is not holding that weight eating roots, rats and pine needle soup as he does on the show. He must be really making up for it on the week ends!
As for Grylls, he has made a career out of doing "extreme" stuff. Every thing from going through training with the French Foregin Legion to mountian climbing. I don't doubt he is tough if he survived FFL training. Grylls does work with a film crew and has a safety net there.
A friend of mine put it best in saying, "both are the survival business equivalent of the WWE..."
Im sure if I was lost I would take more information from Stroud to Survive. Bear runs around like a chicken with his head cut off most of the time. Yeah, he does show you some cool stuff but Stroud actually does the real thing. Stroud hands down.
Bear is the real deal. Les stroud couldn't catch a fish of any kind to save his life. On all of his shows, even the last episode he had a friend along and they both couldn't catch one. He's never been able to fish. Bear on the other hand will pick up a stick and kill one to eat! As Les says "you sweat you die", HAHAHAHAHA!!!!And what's up with punky wood? What is punky? Canadian jargon I guess.
I like both because you can pick up useful information from both shows. My favorite though is Les Stroud. He's out for a week by himself SURVIVING! Bear Grylls has his camera crew with him and I find it hard to believe that he doesn't get more help than what is shown. Bear is one of the most intense people I have ever seen and he definetly would make it on his own if he had to, no question.
I like both. It's all intertainment. If my kids pick up a couple things from each episode that helps them out some day, what difference does it make how much support the guys had that put on the SHOW.
I like survivor man better. I can't stand man vs wild. At least with Stroud he carries his own equipment and has to take into account that he has to be careful because he doesn't have a crew five feet from him to help if he screws up.
Not to mention with Bears crew right there with him at all times, what do they eat and drink? Does he just watch them as they fill themselves and he goes hungry for the day? I doubt it, I'd bet that they give him food and drink. That's not surviving.
Survivorman looks more real to me. Man vs Wild advertises Total Cereal...does that say anything, and he has a camera crew that has food and water with them.
Survivorman is the real deal. He is really out there and suffering and not staying in a hotel. I'm sure Bear has real skills since he was in the British S.A.S and they go through intensive survival training. But his show is a joke and he does stuff for entertainment rather than practicality. Two guys that Americans are not generally familiar with are Les Hiddins aka the Bushtucker Man of Australia, and Ray Mears of England. Their DVDs are available online and while the shipping and handling will cost you because they come from overseas, it is worth the cost.
Survivor man is definetly more real but bear is more entertaining. I watch both of them because who knows what will happen to you. Also i think survivor man goes to places more useful to a hunter or fisher.
haha i'm not sure about bear's survival advice, but he's a badass and its fun to watch his show. Les knows whats goin on, but the show is almost a drag, i think i watched him sit on a raft and do nothing for about a week once.
If you didn't care for Bear Grylls before, you really won't now. A couple of weeks ago on his show he was in Translvania. He picked fruit out of some black bear scat and ate it. So Bear eats bear scat now. Great! Don't put me down for that survival technique.
Les Stroud all the way. How can a man experience the true feeling of isolation and loneliness that occurs in most survival situations when they have an entire film crew with them? And he is a FAKE!! He was caught! I got Les Stroud's book "Survive! Essential Skills and Tactics to Get You Out of Anywhere-Alive" for Christmas and it was both informative and a very entertaining read. Even though he is from Canada, I will have to go with Les Stroud on this one as he is just too much of a beast for anyone to argue that he is the best.
les stroudt...my mom told me she read in her people that bear grylls was caught sleeping in a motel and snapping sticks with the lights out so it seemed like he was outside
ETangler, he says "you sweat you die" when he is in the cold because the sweat cools down the body which will make hypothermia set in quicker. and the only reason bear grylls doesnt die of starvation is because his camera crew gives him food...i can kill stuff too but it dont mean i can get a fire going to cook it i gurentee you couldnt catch a fish with a piece of bubble gum a soda can cap and a grub either
Les Stroud is by far the better deal. I often think how many times he has backtracked just to get his camera he set up. Les also doesn't do things that will get a man killed. I often watch MvW and watch Bear do a crap load of risky things. He's got to remember that not all of us are were trained by the British special forces.
Les Stroud is smart in what he does. The only bad thing I have to say about Stroud is that he abandoned the whole one arm survival thing that one episode, but that's excusable since he does almost the whole entire filming himself besides the beginning and the end of the show.
Les Stroud. He has no camera crew and films himself. He is literally at the mercy of nature. Bear Grylls is fun to watch, but he has a camera crew and was caught staying in hotels at night when the cameras were off. Man Vs. Wild is fun to watch, but is not the real deal like Survivorman.
Les shows us what it might really be like waiting for rescue to arrive. Bear takes a different perspective of getting yourself out where a rescue isn't likely. Both are good things to know. I don't advocate doing some of the risky things Bear does, though, that will get you killed or injured. Les plays it smart. In a real survival situation, that's what you need...smarts.
Survivorman is the real deal. Bear may have been a badass at one point, but I've seen plenty of videos debunking the places he claims are "treacherous" as completely BS.
I would have to say I'd be ok with either in a survival situation, I think of Bear as more of an Adventurer and Les as a Survivor. I generally enjoy both shows.
Actually, I like Bear Grylls because his "answers" to most situations are so incredibly wrong that they will get you killed. It's a great drinking game -- watch "man vs. wild" and drink a beer every time he gives some really bad advice. You'll be drunk by the end of the show. While all this would be funny, occasionally some greenhorn gets lost in the woods and can only remember what he saw on TV. If he's been watching Grylls, he'll wind up drowned at the bottom of a river canyon or poisoned by the evil twin of some edible plant.
I tought survial classes for the B.S.A. so as far as which one is better well les has the food and shelter down but another big part of survivial is keeping ur spirits up and making progress towards geting rescued bear is the man so if you wat to surive go with the knoledge of les and the spirit of bear.
P.S. dont climb up a water fall actually avoid climbing in general without the right saftey eqipment you may fall and it takes just one broken limb to kill you just go around and use the easiest path to aoid injury.
For everyone who's giving Bear grief for having a camera crew and not having the skills to survive, have you forgotten he was the youngest person to summit Mount Everest after having had his back broken during a parachute accident during his time with British SAS?
Grylls carrys with him luxury car camping gear hidden inside those gargantuan nostrils. He can always rescue himself by breathing in hot campfire smoke.
Survivorman is best, far and away. The way Bear thrashes around in the woods and down dangerous slopes, he should have broken ankles every week. Without his support crew the only thing tough about him is his name.
If you listen to most of what baer tells you the rescue crew will have some interesting stuff to tell your family after they find your body. Leave your fire in Africa & run through the night-time savanah???? my 6 year old grandson knows better than that...
If you listen to most of what baer tells you the rescue crew will have some interesting stuff to tell your family after they find your body. Leave your fire in Africa & run through the night-time savanah???? my 6 year old grandson knows better than that...
they are both entertainers and both are set up but Bear Grylls is more action and acutely shows you what to do whereas survivor man just tells you a load of stuff that Bear Grylls tells and shows you anyway
I would say Survivor Man because he actually goes into the wild by himself, Bear Gyrlls just gets taken to some location drops him off for a couple of hours then gets picked up by a helicopter to be taken to some hotel to stay in.
Les Stroud goes at a realistic pace and is careful because you have to be to survive if you are lost or stranded. He relates the mental stress and what it takes to deal with that. He carries about four cameras, tripods, batteries and such and has to set them up and retrieve them. That is added to the actual surviving. Bear is tough and entertaing. Watching him grab and eat a snake or alligator is kinda wild. He charges through the terrain like he is running a marathon. Yeah, he has a camera crew following, but he is fun to watch. I just would not do some of the things he does if I were really trying to survive.
Les Stroud gives you useful information for surviving, but i can't stand his show. Bear Grylls on the other hand is a fake but his showmanship makes his show better to watch.
I like survivor man a lot better he is hard core and has no camera crew to help him out.And when he kills things he eats them I`ve seen Bear Grylls kill a turtle and not eat it.Bear Grylls shows you stuff that will get you hurt like sliding down dirt mountins if you do that when your lost and break a limb your screwed.Survivor man shows you and tells you what you need to do I think he is way better.
They are both for real and very good at what they do. I am personally not a big fan of Les but he does have a slight advantage in the fact that he does his stuff alone. Bear on the other hand knows his stuff in and out and does things that make you say WOW constantly. I can't take my eyes off the tv when Bear is on. He teaches you things rather than just doing them as Les does. Overall, Bear is the man but both men deserve their props.
Les actually taught a survival class in college. He is a scholar of the outdoors and prides himself on knowledge of the environment. Discovery wanted Bear to 'replace' Les because some of his reviews stated that there was "not enough action" on his show. I think surviving by yourself WITHOUT A CAMERA CREW (who probably has food) is an amazing thing to accomplish, especially in so many different environments. Bear is on tv to please those adrenaline junkies out there who aren't interested in the real deal. Les Stroud is the legitimate survivorman.
they both are very good and very diferent les teaches you how to survive for a while mainly in 1 place. bear teaches you how to find a way out of the wild while also surviving they both are realy good thats why they are on the discovery chanel
survivor man is the real deal legit but its more boring truefly and man v wild still legit and you still can learn alot without bbeing bored between the useful facts
survivor man because he doesnt have a camera crew, he has to do it all himself. those shots were he walks away from the camera all the way up the mountain, well he has to march back down to get the camera then do it again. he is one crazy dude and he gets my award
I like both because you can pick up useful information from both shows. My favorite though is Les Stroud. He's out for a week by himself SURVIVING! survivorman.
I don't know but I know Bear is very entertaining.
They are both the real thing, even if the shows are made for entertainment. Who cares that Bear's show is set up, he is a bad man.
survivorman but he enjoysb all the food he eats. kinda wierd
Survivorman is hands-down the best show. I couldn't stand even five minutes of man vs wild. Survivorman just has it all and is very knowledgeable without sounding like he's reading cards.
survivor man but unfortunately he has quit doing the show
Survivor man is more realistic, but beear grylls is much more fun to watch.
He sure is I think Bear is a very twisted version of the Cocidile Hunter.
I like both but les stroud is the real Mccoy
Stroud

This is why I vote Survivor Man, well this and i like it better. Man vs. Wild is a fraud!
i heard a couple years ago that bear while being "lost" in alaska stayed at a spa/resort i dont know if this is true but i like surviorman better.
Survivor Man, he went it alone, not only does Bear have a crew with him, I also heard that he would frequently leave the field when not filming. Les was actually surviving.
I saw Bear wear a life vest underneath his shirt on one show while "risking his life crossing a river". He's fake.
Survivorman for sure. Didn't Bear come out and admit he was flow out of a location to stay at a hotel and besides Les doesn't have any camera man. And he sure can play the harmonica.
some of the stuff that bear dous will get you killed. les gives you info on stuff that most of us can use.
Les by far he is out there by him self, and all of the climbing and running that bear does will get you killed.
They are both entertainers. The show that Stroud did on the Altamaha River in Georgia was about as fake as it comes. survivorman, he films himself, bear has a crew and gets help, Les gets in trouble, he is screwed.
Im sure if I was lost I would take more information from Stroud to Survive. Bear runs around like a chicken with his head cut off most of the time. Yeah, he does show you some cool stuff but Stroud actually does the real thing. Stroud hands down.

I would have to say Surviorman from the episodes I have watched he seems to be the real deal
I like both because you can pick up useful information from both shows. My favorite though is Les Stroud. He's out for a week by himself SURVIVING! Bear Grylls has his camera crew with him and I find it hard to believe that he doesn't get more help than what is shown. Survivorman! Bear Grylls stays in hotels at night.
thanks for your input everyone!
I dont like either one
well bear has a camra crew and souviver man does not but its fun to see what bear is going to eat or drink next :)

They are both real, but i like bear more
Nate
Survivor man is definetly more real but bear is more entertaining. I watch both of them because who knows what will happen to you. Also i think survivor man goes to places more useful to a hunter or fisher.
Les Struod all the way
Les Stroud For sure...Im surprised bear isnt dead yet..what an idiot.
haha i'm not sure about bear's survival advice, but he's a badass and its fun to watch his show.
I like Survivorman although Man vs. Wild comes on more.
i like survivorman he is the real deal man vs wild is fake
les stroud all the way
Bear stayed in hotels his first season, Les is the better of the two. I also read his book which was very well written, it's called Survive.
The only bad thing I have to say about Stroud is that he abandoned the whole one arm survival thing that one episode, but that's excusable since he does almost the whole entire filming himself besides the beginning and the end of the show.
i like bear grylls but you know les stroud is alone and bear grylls isnt so les stroud is
i think bear grills used to befake untill he got sued which i think if funny.
survier man fore sure. i just wish that he did not quit doing the show
Survivorman
defiantly survivorman but I like both shows
Les Stroud. He has no camera crew and films himself. He is literally at the mercy of nature. Bear Grylls is fun to watch, but he has a camera crew and was caught staying in hotels at night when the cameras were off. Man Vs. Wild is fun to watch, but is not the real deal like Survivorman.
Les Stoud is the real deal. I wouldn't think twice following his advice. Bear is too over the top. I would end up dead trying the things he does.
Les by far, Direct and reasonable. Not all about the show.
da'Bear!!
Cant stand survivorman. Bear is the best
bear
Both are entertaining, but Bear could whip he in any fight, fair or not.
Survivorman is the real deal. Bear may have been a badass at one point, but I've seen plenty of videos debunking the places he claims are "treacherous" as completely BS.
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=survivorman+fake&hl=en&emb=0&aq=f#...
Oh, and what does every single survival authority say when you should do if you get lost?
STAY PUT. It makes is easier for help to find you. Les Stroud for sure.
Les Stroud for sure. Bear does things that a survivalist should know not to do.
Les is easily the best choice. bear is just on tv because of his cool accent
they are both entertainers and both are set up but Bear Grylls is more action and acutely shows you what to do whereas survivor man just tells you a load of stuff that Bear Grylls tells and shows you anyway
Survivor man-- les stroud
survivor man!!!!! man vs. wild guy gets a drink or a candy bar on commercial breaks!
bear grillz is the real deal.
He really tells you better than less strout to
I would say Survivor Man because he actually goes into the wild by himself, Bear Gyrlls just gets taken to some location drops him off for a couple of hours then gets picked up by a helicopter to be taken to some hotel to stay in.
Neither
survivorman
his show has no helicopters or camera crews. and he doesnt complain on how digusting a food is. he seems to enjoy all of it.
Stroud all the way
Les Stroud goes at a realistic pace and is careful because you have to be to survive if you are lost or stranded.
Bear is more entertaining but Les stroud is legit bear is a fraud.
I say survivorman too.......
Les Stroud.
Survivor is hands down the more lagit show he has know camera crew or anyone else helping him. Bear Gryills does crazier stuff though.
The video about man vs. wild on ebaumsworld was pretty good. I personally like survivor man.
Les Stroud
Survivorman

Survivorman
Man vs. Wild!
survivor man bear grils gets naked too often
survivor man is the real deal legit but its more boring truefly and man v wild still legit and you still can learn alot without bbeing bored between the useful facts
Survivorman for sure. Doesn't drink own piss as much.
survivor man because he doesnt have a camera crew, he has to do it all himself. those shots were he walks away from the camera all the way up the mountain, well he has to march back down to get the camera then do it again. he is one crazy dude and he gets my award

survivorman.
Les Stroud. He has no camera crew and films himself. He is literally at the mercy of nature. Bear Grylls is fun to watch, but he has a camera crew and was caught staying in hotels at night when the cameras were off. Man Vs. Wild is fun to watch, but is not the real deal like Survivorman.
I would have to say I'd be ok with either in a survival situation, I think of Bear as more of an Adventurer and Les as a Survivor. I generally enjoy both shows.
Survivorman, he goes out alone.
Stroud
He sure is I think Bear is a very twisted version of the Cocidile Hunter.
I like Survivorman although Man vs. Wild comes on more.
Les by far he is out there by him self, and all of the climbing and running that bear does will get you killed.
I like survivor man better. I can't stand man vs wild. At least with Stroud he carries his own equipment and has to take into account that he has to be careful because he doesn't have a crew five feet from him to help if he screws up.
Bear stayed in hotels his first season, Les is the better of the two. I also read his book which was very well written, it's called Survive.
Les Stroud is by far the better deal. I often think how many times he has backtracked just to get his camera he set up. Les also doesn't do things that will get a man killed. I like both but les stroud is the real Mccoy
les stroudt...my mom told me she read in her people that bear grylls was caught sleeping in a motel and snapping sticks with the lights out so it seemed like he was outside
Les Stoud is the real deal. I wouldn't think twice following his advice. Bear is too over the top. I would end up dead trying the things he does.

survivorman, he films himself, bear has a crew and gets help, Les gets in trouble, he is screwed.
survivor man but unfortunately he has quit doing the show
i heard a couple years ago that bear while being "lost" in alaska stayed at a spa/resort i dont know if this is true but i like surviorman better.
Im sure if I was lost I would take more information from Stroud to Survive. Bear runs around like a chicken with his head cut off most of the time. Yeah, he does show you some cool stuff but Stroud actually does the real thing. Stroud hands down.
Survivorman looks more real to me. Man vs Wild advertises Total Cereal...does that say anything, and he has a camera crew that has food and water with them.
Survivorman!
thanks for your input everyone!
survivorman but he enjoysb all the food he eats. kinda wierd
I saw Bear wear a life vest underneath his shirt on one show while "risking his life crossing a river". He's fake.
Survivor man is definetly more real but bear is more entertaining. I watch both of them because who knows what will happen to you. Also i think survivor man goes to places more useful to a hunter or fisher.
some of the stuff that bear dous will get you killed. les gives you info on stuff that most of us can use.
Not to mention with Bears crew right there with him at all times, what do they eat and drink? Does he just watch them as they fill themselves and he goes hungry for the day? I doubt it, I'd bet that they give him food and drink. That's not surviving.
If you didn't care for Bear Grylls before, you really won't now. A couple of weeks ago on his show he was in Translvania. He picked fruit out of some black bear scat and ate it. So Bear eats bear scat now. Great! Don't put me down for that survival technique.
I would have to say Surviorman from the episodes I have watched he seems to be the real deal
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/32385/
This is why I vote Survivor Man, well this and i like it better. Man vs. Wild is a fraud!
They are both the real thing, even if the shows are made for entertainment. Who cares that Bear's show is set up, he is a bad man.
Survivorman! Bear Grylls stays in hotels at night.
There is no doubt, that my boy Les "Survivorman" Stroud is the real deal. Even though he is out there a week ahead of time with a survival expert from the area. He films the whole thing by himself. That takes some stones.
I like both. It's all intertainment. If my kids pick up a couple things from each episode that helps them out some day, what difference does it make how much support the guys had that put on the SHOW.
Les Struod all the way
well bear has a camra crew and souviver man does not but its fun to see what bear is going to eat or drink next :)

Les Stroud goes at a realistic pace and is careful because you have to be to survive if you are lost or stranded. He relates the mental stress and what it takes to deal with that. Survivorman is hands-down the best show. I couldn't stand even five minutes of man vs wild. Survivorman just has it all and is very knowledgeable without sounding like he's reading cards.
I don't know but I know Bear is very entertaining.
I perfer Man vs. Wild, but I like Surviorman as well. Both are great informative guys. One thing that I can say is Survivorman goes it alone with the camera, whereas Man vs. Wild has a camera crew and when he was in Scotland actually pulled him out of mossed over shaft.
Les actually taught a survival class in college. He is a scholar of the outdoors and prides himself on knowledge of the environment.
