Best New Flybox of 2010: Umpqua Feather Merchants Professional Guide Flybox

The terms professional and guide get thrown around a lot when it comes to tackle, but the UPG Flybox lived up to its name. The double-sided box showed an impressive impact resistance; a 21⁄2-pound weight, dropped from a height of 6 feet, just bounced off. Though labeled water resistant, it has a full gasket that delivered a good deal more. We submerged a box for 30 minutes without a hint of seepage.

Flies are pinched by the hook bend in slotted foam strips, eliminating the tearing that comes from repeatedly sticking hook points into foam bars or liners. Spacing between the strips gives clearance for dry flies so that the hackles don’t get mashed. Capacity is high—508 slots on the medium box—and transparent lids allow you to see your flies. With secure latches that open with one hand and rounded corners that won’t snag, the UPG box is a safe package for your flies. It comes in three sizes.

Seems like a good price for what you get.

Thats a great price for the amount of flys but the flybox dosn't look like a quality product.

I purchased all three sizes of these boxes shortly after they arrived at the local shop. I have drug them to several states, on many back country trips. The review on this product is spot on.
I too have dropped these boxes across rccks in winter conditions and I have yet to have a problem.
The hinges too, are extremely durable.
The foam inside has maintained better than any other box I have owned. I hope they have something larger in future for my saltwater flies.
