I wish I could help you. I have never hunted a hog...ever. I am looking forward to some of the answers. I would assume that a load similar to what you would use for a deer.
I use 3" slugs. Remington Copper Solids in the rifled barrel, whatever is cheap if I am shooting through the smooth bore. I am not sure that buckshot would penetrate enough on a good sized hog.
Shot placement is everything!!!
I have a friend that was shooting pigs with a 44 mag &they still were running.
The front & right behind the shoulders is a thick & hard to get through!!!
Good eats!!!
I use my Ithaca 37/12Ga W/Slug Bbl and Brenneke Black Magic Slugs 2.3/4", they work well out of a smooth bore also, Most of the Old Boys here in Fl use Shotguns for Hogs and some use 30-30s..But slugs put the stop on hogs faster, I have seen them run dry with 30-30s on BIG Hogs(400+#) and not stop em, not so with Slugs.
